ORIT ENTERTAINMENT is a film and television production company founded by Academy Award® Winner Octavia Spencer. ORIT serves as the day-to-day company behind the endeavors of which Spencer is a producer, and I am the Head of Film + TV for the company and Octavia’s Producing Partner. A core belief of ORIT ENTERTAINMENT is working with established professionals while simultaneously championing emerging writers and directors. Spencer, who has a passion for storytelling of all kinds, is a producer on a wide range of projects.
As an Executive Producer, Spencer made her mark on 2013’s Fruitvale Station, directed by Ryan Coogler and co-starring Michael B. Jordan, which went on to win the Grand Jury Prize at Sundance and Best First Feature at Cannes. In 2017, Octavia executive produced the critically acclaimed SMALL TOWN CRIME, written and directed by the Nelms Brothers, in which she also stars alongside John Hawkes, Anthony Anderson and Robert Forster. Upon its release, the film was applauded by the LA Times, NY Times, Newsweek, Rolling Stone, Variety and The Hollywood Reporter among others. Most recently, Spencer executive produced GREEN BOOK (2019) , which won numerous awards including Best Picture and Best Actor (Viggo Mortensen) by the National Board of Review and the highest honors of Best Supporting Actor (Mahershala Ali), Best Screenplay and Best Motion Picture at both the Golden Globes and the Academy Awards.
Next up, Spencer serves as executive producer on several upcoming projects including three TV series: one based on the Jonestown Massacre with Vince Gilligan and Michelle MacLaren for HBO; Madam C.J. Walker with Lebron James for Netflix; "Are You Sleeping” with Reese Witherspoon for Apple; the RHINELAND AFFAIR with Queen Latifah; and FAIRY TALE ENDING, a project that re-teams her with Bryce Dallas Howard.
